Jae is doing a #DGThrowback week on Twitter and with the resurgence of H.A.G.E. and King of Gate just around the corner it seemed very appropriate for our next look down memory lane to be El Numero Uno 2003.

For those not in the know, El Numero Uno is what King of Gate used to be before Dragon Gate. This specific one is very special to a lot of people and I think not many would argue is the best the company has put on. Mainly for one specific reason and that is the rise of the HAGE army! I won’t say anymore. You will just have to watch it and see. Feel free to add to #DGThrowback if you’re on Twitter with your thoughts, or just post them in the comments if not.

    Takayama in Toryumon?.What!!!!!.
That guy wrestled in every puro promotion possible…

  • Seth

Well it was a Stalker match so doesn’t really count ;)

  • The Night of HAGE!!!

  • ryo saeba

hey, mastermind whatch my questions to you on the section of the last ppv.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaawesome. thanks seth!

  • Nate The Great

    HAGE army? Spoiler-free? Hmmmm….

    • Seth

I didn’t say it was spoiler free, but I also didn’t give any spoilers.

  • I love when you post old Toryumon. Can’t get enough.

  • ryo saeba

it’s only ultimo dragon and super shisa that have trained all the dgate guys?.
If yes, they’re fantastic coaches because they have give dgate so much young guys that’s quite amazing.

Btw,why ultimo dragon left,i do not remind it….

  • Seth

Ultimo and SAITO were the two main trainers. I don’t know if they were the only ones. Obviously Ultimo hasn’t anything to do with it anymore.

I guess you weren’t watching when Ultimo left, but him leaving is the reason it is now called Dragon Gate and not Toryumon, as he took the name with him.

And by left I think the term “forced out” is more appropriate. I was a huge Ultimo fan at the time so was very sad at this, but I won’t miss the constant lucha visitors that he brought in. Saying that though, they weren’t nearly as bad as Abdullah and Akebono of course…

I do miss his zany gimmicks and booking though.

  • ryo saeba

well no,like i said you i watched dgare since 2009.

    why did he left?.

what does it means zany gimmicks?.

it s mean something special toryumon?.
i do not know if this the case but the dragon gate term is quite awesome for a puro promotion name.

he was better younger super shisa or is he at the top his game now?.

you won’t do a recap of the last ppv finally or what?.

  • Magnum trained Tozawa, Ono and Hulk, Shingo was trained by NJPW legend Animal Hamaguchi.

Shisa’s best run was right after SAITO “retired” and first became Shisa at least IMO.

By Zany gimmicks he means Doi as a baseball player, Yoshino as Tarzan, the Italian exotic car masks, The Karaoke machines, Syachihoko Machines, Iron Perm team (that might have been dragon gate) etc etc
